Barnstaple based dance school, Unlimited Dance Company, is celebrating the success of one of its students who has been selected to join the English Youth Ballet Company.
Twelve-year-old Scarlett Goodyear will join the prestigious company and perform alongside professional dancers in classical ballet productions across the UK. Her first role will be performing in Swan Lake at the Kings Theatre in Portsmouth this April.
Scarlett joined the Unlimited Dance Company (UDC) on Mill Road, Barnstaple at the age of seven and Director Sarah Clements is delighted to see her dedication and hard work pay off.
“We are so proud of Scarlett and her accomplishments.” said Sarah. “Scarlett has progressed through the IDTA ballet grades with distinctions and is always looking for ways to challenge herself and audition for opportunities to showcase and develop her dancing. We are thrilled that the English Youth Ballet have seen her talents and are helping her to follow her dream to become a professional dancer.”
Scarlett was chosen for this prestigious role after attending an open audition in Plymouth where she was selected from more than 60 other dancers. She said, “I can’t remember a time when I didn’t dance and ballet has always been my favourite class, I think it’s beautiful and I like the way it challenges me. My teachers at UDC have always supported me and I enjoy books about women who have pushed themselves to their limits doing the things they love, which I find so inspiring. I can’t wait to perform for the English Youth Ballet.”
Ballet Company, an IDTA syllabus-based ballet Grade 5 class, which Scarlett takes alongside Lyrical and Musical Theatre at Unlimited Dance Company, has become like an extension of her family. Scarlett’s mum, Sophie, explained: “We are so proud of Scarlett and cannot thank her teachers at UDC enough for their support and encouragement. It’s been so special for us to see her confidence grow over the years. The studio has been a second home for her, and often the whole family! Ballet is a beautiful discipline and has taught Scarlett so much about what she can achieve. We cannot wait to see where her journey takes her.”
English Youth Ballet perform full length productions of classical ballets with professional principal dancers in the leading roles. The shows are held in theatres across the UK, giving young dancers outside London an opportunity to perform within a professional setting. Each year the professional principal dancers are joined by aspiring young dancers to present productions in cities and regional areas throughout the UK.
Unlimited Dance Company offers classes in ballet, tap, lyrical, musical theatre, street/commercial and diversity classes for students with additional needs. The youngest pupils are just two years old in the parent/child Matilda Mouse ballet classes and all other classes are available for children from three years old. They also offer private 1:1 ballet lessons for children aged 5 and over. For more information visit their website www.unlimiteddance.co.uk or email sarah@unlimiteddance.co.uk
