Classes
These are the classes we currently run -
Ballet
Sarah & Donna
We study the IDTA (International Dance Teachers Association) syllabus from Pre - Primary up to Advance 1.
Ballet gives the child a chance to develop self confidence and express themselves through movement, also giving them a grounding in discipline and good posture which should carry them through into adult life.
Ballet is the stepping stone to all other aspects of dance and if able, the student should try and have Ballet as one of his/her disciplines.
Tap
Sarah & Donna
We follow the IDTA syllabus from Primary up to Advance 1.
This is a great way for the student to express him/herself through noise. The child will learn how to make lots of different rhythms by using just their feet and will develop them into dance moves. A lot of free work is done in these classes allowing the child to explore rhythm and different tempos.
Modern
Sarah
The IDTA syllabus is followed from Primary class test to Advance 1.
Modern is a fun way to learn technical moves within exercises. A lot of free work is done within the class this is where the teacher will put on up to date music and choreograph small amalgamations for the children to learn. This helps the student to develop the skill of picking up routines quickly and remembering them.
Hip Hop
Sarah
This is a totally free style class.
A warm up is done at the beginning of every class and then the teacher will choreograph a routine. Some weeks the students will learn a dance and continue with it the following lesson allowing the child to achieve a whole dance. The children are also encouraged to start doing their own choreography which allows them to express their own style of dance.
Cheerleading
Sarah
This is a very energectic form of dance/gymnastics.
This class combines both things so if someone has a gymnastic background this is the ideal class for them. For ages from 7 - 16 years, the UDC Cheer Squad use up to date music and are members of the BCA - British Cheerleading Association.
Contemporary
Donna
Contemporary is a mixture of free expression and choreographed work.
It was developed by Merce Cunningham and Martha Graham and has continued to develop over the years. This class is for senior students who have a good ballet background.
